Something I will always remember is when I was hiking on the highest and coolest trail ever! We were about 200 feet of the ground, (well 200 feet is what it seemed like, so we will just go with that.) I was hiking and drinking a gallon of water a minute because I didn’t want to pass out from the heat, when all of a sudden I got sick to my stomach. It was the worst feeling ever! I had to go to the bathroom. So I went into the bushes and I saw a small chipmunk and it was caught in a bunch of leaves and sticks, but little did I know those weren’t any old leafs, that was poison ivy.
I went over to the chipmunk and freed it from the trap it was in. The chipmunk was caught in a bundle of leaves. He was trying to force his foot out but had many troubles. I enjoyed helping the wildlife. Chipmunks are my favorite little animals, and this chipmunk, was so tinny tiny and it could have possibly been a baby.
After I freed it, it started running away from like I was going to hurt it or something. Then it disappeared into the trees a couple moments later it dashed back in my direction and started to try to climb up on my leg and halfway up my leg it was digging its claws right into my skin to get a hold of me and stick onto me. I was so surprised, at first and I was laughing so hard that an animal peed on me!!!! And at the same time I was also wondering what would happen to my leg, like if I would get some sort of disease, and if the scratch marks would stay on my leg?
So the next day, not only did I have the smell of pee on my leg I was covered in poison ivy and had scratch marks all up my leg. I probably will never go on that trail again. I’m thoroughly embarrassed that I was a complete hobo on the first day of class.
